About the Event

The Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire is hosting its 4th Annual Sustainability Fair on Saturday, October 5th from 11am-2pm at Ball & Socket Arts on 493 West Main Street. All are invited to this annual gathering. This site is particularly meaningful given Ball & Socket Art’s emphasis on historical preservation, environmental remediation, and their support of local and regional artists. This site also allows us to highlight local gems, such as the Farmington Canal Heritage Linear Trail and the Cheshire Pollinator Pathway's beautiful West Main Garden.

Participating in our Sustainability Fair this year are a number of familiar local organizations including, Friends of Boulder Knoll Farm, Cheshire Pollinator Pathway, Cheshire Land Trust, Cheshire Parks & Recreation, Mill River Watershed Association, Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society, Cheshire Creation Care, the Environment Commission, and the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA. Joining us for the first time are students from the Sound School in New Haven who will be sharing educational art activities for children interested in sea life.

The Ball & Socket Arts Gallery will also be open to the public so attendees can enjoy the final day of the current installation “Community Garden,” by David B. Smith. Visitors are invited to explore a maze of neon-green vine sculptures intertwined with red velvet heart-berries—a space of growth and expression. The surrounding walls hold a selection of textile works depicting members of an other-worldly community.

Participants of all ages will enjoy a tasty snack or lunch at the Soulfully Vegan Food Truck. And, of course, Sweet Claude’s Ice Cream will be open with seasonal specialties for those who want to satisfy their sweet tooth.

In the spirit of promoting sustainability, we encourage locals, for whom it is reasonable, to walk or bike to the event. Limited parking will be available at Ball and Socket Arts near the Willow Street entrance, but for those who can walk or bike, additional parking can be found along the Farmington Canal Linear Trail at Jarvis Street, Cornwall Avenue, and North Brooksvale Road.
